While traveling the world in the interests of his profession and patients, Dr. John Smith prefers to practice orthodontics in the same area in which he grew up: Central Florida. Having earned his B.S. degree in Zoology from the University of Florida in 1971, Dr. Smith went on to receive his D.D.S. degree in 1975 from Emory University. Graduating first in his class and earning the distinguished Alpha Omega Scholastic Award he was elected to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities," and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Scholastic Society.

Perhaps the most notable achievement in Dr. Smith's career came after he received his Masters Degree in Dental Science (M.S.D.) from the University of Washington. His graduate work in implantology gained him the coveted Milo Hellman International Research Award presented each year by the American Association of Orthodontists for the most outstanding orthodontic research. After graduating from the University of Washington, Dr. Smith became interested in another area of orthodontics, "invisible braces." Dr. Smith, working with five other noted orthodontists, helped pioneer the research that led to the development of invisible braces. Over the years, Dr. Smith has taught the theory of invisible braces to thousands of orthodontists throughout the world.

Since his initial work with invisible braces in 1980, Dr. Smith has been an innovator in several other areas of orthodontics. He currently lectures on office efficiency, improving staff relations and treatment protocols for unique orthodontic appliances. His international lectures have taken him to Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Puerto Rico. Dr. Smith is the author of numerous professional publications in orthodontics. He holds membership in the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), the American Lingual Orthodontic Association (ALOA), the Florida Society of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, and Orange County Dental Society.

Is there life away from the dental chair for Dr. Smith? Along with fun activities such as fishing, boating, scuba diving, skiing, golf and playing with his two children, "Bob" keeps his busy life in balance with a good book or movie.
